WebMay 9, 2024 · After hitting by a car a man he was angry with on the open street, a taxi driver defended himself by saying that he feared his friend would attack him because of a previous conflict. He said he did not want to hurt the man. On the morning of 3 May, the 30-year-old driver hit a pedestrian on the street in the 20th district and swept the man away. Tap taps are gaily painted buses or pick-up trucks with metal covers that serve as share taxis in Haiti. They may also be referred to as camionette. Literally meaning "quick quick", these vehicles for hire are privately owned and ornately decorated. They follow fixed routes, won't leave until filled with passengers, and riders can disembark at any point in the journey.
