WebMar 12, 2012 · E39s built between 1/95-3/97 can only use an EWS II control module...e39s built from 3/97-up had EWS 3.2 and those cars can except the EWS 4.3 control module which I believe is what BMW uses as replacement modules for BMWs built from 3/97-up. WebFeb 6, 2016 · If voltage to Terminal C of the starter remains constant through trying to start, but it doesn't crank, you can know that for sure. As long as your EWS doesn't have any frays in wiring, melted housing etc you should be fine. Someone with more knowledge might chime in to clear this up and pin things down.
